my story
"When we are at our best, we can give our best."
Many times I am asked about where my passion comes from. The answer is YOU. It's in your smile, the light in your eyes and your laughter. There is a great power within each of us but in order to ignite that power we must be in harmony with ourselves and the world around us. That is where beauty and wellness come together and balance begins.
I have always had a passion for beauty that is more than skin deep. For me, it's all about helping women find the perfect balance between feeling beautiful on the inside and looking beautiful on the outside. Did you know beauty actually means balance? When a woman feels beautiful she brings balance to her life. It is that balance that helps radiate her inner beauty outward.
This passion for beauty and wellness began before I was even aware of it. When I was in my early teens I would spend hours browsing magazine ads and books on makeup techniques and healthy skin. I was always trying the latest makeup trends and homemade face masks. I recall one ad in particular. It was the Jolly Green Giant ad for green beans in a Seventeen magazine. I can still see the girl's face, healthy and glowing—she even had freckles like me! They were advertising how good green beans were for your skin because of how nutritious they are. Even though I hated green beans I still found the ad appealing. Back then we did not have the in-depth knowledge and education about healthy skin we do now.
While I am now comfortable with my current weight, I always struggled with it while growing up and it had a direct effect on my self esteem. Even as a cheerleader in high school I was always very concious of my weight. It was not until after I was married that I became very involved with fitness as an aerobic instuctor and director. I think this is where my love for teaching began and my desire to teach others about beauty being more than skin deep. Too many times women fall into the media trap; we forget who we are and the true beauty we possess.
My first experience in the beauty industry was as a nail technician educator. I went on to develop educational curriculum for beauty programs and was asked to be a guest speaker at various beauty schools and women's functions. I started to truly fall in love with this industry—I had found my niche! I found nothing more rewarding than putting a set of nails on a woman and watching her transform. I once had a woman in her early 30's start to cry. Of course my first thought was she did not like the nails. Then she said, with tears running down her cheeks, "This is the first time in my life I have felt feminine. How much do I owe you?" What could I say? You can’t put a price on an experience like that.
Since that time I have dedicated myself to helping women look and feel their best. In turn they go out into the world and give their best. I once heard someone say, "You can't help a friend, or a stranger up the stairs if you can't climb the stairs yourself." Every time I speak at a cosmetology school I always have the students pat themselves on the back for choosing such a rewarding industry.
my purpose
It is my mission to help women of all ages to reach their goals in beauty and wellness and educate them so they can make the right choice for themselves. Over the years I have become extensively involved in the beauty industry. This allows me to stay up to date with the latest information and resources. In my travels I have been blessed to meet many influential people in their specific fields who are willing to share their wealth of knowledge in order to help others. It is my strong desire to make the world a better place, one beautiful woman at a time. For me, it all comes down to education.
Knowledge is power. In order to make the best choices you need the best information. Healthier skin means a healthier you. Using proper skin care and healthy makeup is a great start to ensuring beauty inside and out. It is not about vanity; it's about making right choices, and confidence within yourself. ~ Kari
